Dr. Quan Nguyen - Conference Speaker

Quan Nguyen is the director of, a Vietnamese language Internet radio and website supported with a grant from the National Endowment for Democracy.

Its goal is to provide listeners and readers in Vietnam with uncensored and unbiased world news and information about human rights issues and democracy in Vietnam.

As director of the project, Nguyen has been able to successfully bypass many of the Vietnamese government’s Web censors and maintain and expand the Internet radio and the website despite several attacks by the Vietnamese government.

Nguyen attended the Saigon Medical School and graduated in 1968. From 1968 to 1975 he served in the South Vietnamese Army’s Medical Corps with the rank of captain. When South Vietnam fell in 1975, he escaped by boat and became a refugee in the United States.

Nguyen is a member of Physicians For Human Rights and president of the Asian American Medical Society. In addition to his medical practice, Nguyen has been actively involved in advocating for freedom, democracy, and human rights in Vietnam for more than over 20 years.
